Daily Summaries from the Quran: Portion 8

A daily collection of snippets and highlights from the Quran. I started collecting these for every single night of Ramadan to send a Christian friend who’s interested in the Quran but struggles to find time to read it. So I thought to share these online for others who might also benefit.

6.111 Even if We had sent them angels, made the dead speak to them, and assembled before their own eyes every sign ˹they demanded˺, they still would not have believed — unless God so willed.

6.115 In this verse and others God promised that no one will ever be able to alter the Qur’an and to this day not a single letter has changed: The Word of your Lord is complete in its truth and justice. No one can change His words: He is the All Hearing, the All Knowing.

6.116 If you were to obey most of those on earth, they would indeed lead you away from the path of God. They follow nothing but speculations; they are merely guessing (about the truth)

6.125 Whoever God wills to guide, He opens their heart to Islam (submission to God). But whoever He wills to leave astray, He makes their chest tight and constricted as if they were climbing up into the sky.

6.127 For the believers is the Home of Peace with their Creator. He will be their Protecting Friend because of what good they used to do.

6.141 He is the One Who produces gardens — both cultivated and wild — and palm trees, crops of different flavours, olives, and pomegranates — similar yet unique. Eat of their produce and give in charity at harvest, and do not waste. Surely He does not like the wasteful extravagant.

Similar to 10 commandments:

6.145 Say (O Muhammad), “I do not find [anything] revealed to me as forbidden to eat unless it be a dead animal or blood spilled out or the flesh of swine — for indeed, it is impure — or anything slaughtered in disobedience, dedicated to other than God. But whoever is forced [by necessity], neither desiring [it] nor transgressing, then indeed, your Master is Forgiving and Merciful.”

6.146 And to the Jews We prohibited every animal of uncloven hoof; and of the cattle and the sheep We prohibited to them their fat, except what adheres to their backs or the entrails or what is joined with bone. By this We repaid them for their injustices crimes. And indeed, We are truthful.

6.151 Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “Come! Let me recite to you what your Lord has forbidden to you: do not associate others with Him ˹in worship˺. ˹Do not fail to˺ honour your parents. Do not kill your children for fear of poverty-We provide for you and for them. Do not come near indecencies, openly or secretly. Do not take a ˹human˺ life — made sacred by God — except with ˹legal˺ right. This is what He has commanded you, so perhaps you will understand.

… And when you testify, be just, even if it concerns a near relative. And the covenant of God, fulfill. This all He has instructed you that you may remember.

6.155 This is a blessed Book We have revealed.

6.156 lest you say, ‘Scriptures were only sent down to two communities (Christians and Jews) before us: and we were not aware of what they read,’

6.157 so now there has come to you from your Master a clear proof — a guide and mercy. Who then does more wrong than those who deny God’s revelations and turn away from them?

A beautiful description of faith and our purpose:

6.161 Say (O Muhammad), ‘My Lord has guided me to the straight path, a correct religion, the faith of Abraham, a man of pure faith. And he was not a polytheist.’

6.162 Say, “Surely my prayer, my worship, my life, and my death are all for God — Lord of all worlds.

He has no partner in worship. And thus I have been commanded, and I am the first of the Muslims.”

Then began a chapter with the story of Adam and his removal from Paradise:

7.33 They (Adam and Eve) prayed, “O God! We both have wronged ourselves. If You do not forgive us and have mercy on us, we will certainly be of the losers.”

7.27 O children of Adam, let not Satan tempt you as he caused your parents to be removed from Paradise, stripping them of their clothing to show them their private parts. Indeed, he and his tribe see you, from where you do not see them. Indeed, We have made the devils allies to those who do not believe

O children of Adam! We have provided for you clothing to cover your nakedness and as an adornment. However, the best clothing is to clothe yourself with righteousness. This is one of God’s blessings, so perhaps you will be mindful.

7.42 Those who believed and worked righteousness — We tax not any person beyond his scope — such are the dwellers of the Garden. They will abide therein forever.

7.43 We will remove whatever resentment they had in their hearts. Rivers will flow under their feet. And they will say, “Praise be to God for guiding us to this. Never could we have been guided had God not guided us. The messengers of our Lord certainly came with the truth.” Then a voice will call out to them:

“This is the Garden awarded to you for what you used to do.”
